LOVE, WISDOM AND CHILDISHNESS

Founded by Madam Soong Ching-Ling, ROEWE·Shanghai Children's Art Theatre (SHCAT)is part of the China Welfare Institute. The Theatre was officially opened on 1 June 2013, and renovated from the SAIC-GM Pavilion used during the Shanghai 2010 World Expo.

Soong Ching-Ling said, "children are the future rulers of the world. Exposing them to plays, improving their manners, bringing them enjoyment and sparking their imagination is highly educational and valuable." Bearing this in mind, SHCAT is dedicated to presenting best performances and shows to children, together with supreme artistic experience.

"The best children's art theatre should have the same high standards as a theatre for adults." SHCAT is operated according to this philosophy. Our goal is to become the best theatre for children in the world.

Our target audience are children aged 16 and under, and their families. We aim to bring our audience best domestic and foreign programs. Our Theatre provides children with a multi-functional platform to join in interactive activities and receive open education. These experiences can fundamentally incentive their curiosity about the world, ignite their imagination, develop their ability in exploring the world, and encourage children taking their initiatives to learn in the world of art.

Our Theatre welcomes all the children, youth, family and schools. We want our children to have unparalleled experiences in theatre, so as to broaden their vision and enrich their self-recognitions and understandings of others.

SHCAT is located in the site of 2010 Shanghai World Expo, the west side of the Huangpu River. Our Theatre is dubbed "Big Whale" for its unique building shape. There is a huge LED screen outside, which has been widely recognized as the "Angel's Eye" of our theare. We have two professional theatres, one 270-degree sightseeing platform, one VIP reception hall, classrooms, training rooms, one recording studio and one large parking area outside our theatre.

Over 100,000 children and their families come to SHCAT every year. In addition to performances and shows held inside our theatre, we also bring them and art education programs to schools and local communities, which allows us to reach a bigger audience.
